But as much as we love new Mazda vehicles, we're also proud of the history of this fantastic brand which melds gripping performance with practical affordability. We think you'll find the Mazda brand even more compelling once you learn a little more about its history.

The name "Mazda" first appeared as the name for a three-wheeled truck produced by the Toyo Cork Kogyo Company in 1931. The word "Mazda" is the name of an early god in western Asia who represented wisdom, intelligence, and harmony. Further work on Mazda vehicles was stalled by World War II, but the Mazda name reappeared when it produced its first automobile in 1960. In 1961, the company started developing rotary engines with German auto manufacturers that led to the brand becoming the premier manufacturer to offer three different rotary engines in addition to gasoline and diesel. In the 1970s, Mazda began selling vehicles in the United States. It was in the 1980s that the company officially adopted the Mazda moniker, and it turned out to be a wildly successful decade for the company.

The first true Mazda automobile was the R360 coupe, introduced in 1960, and began the company's journey into the passenger vehicle market. Also during the 60s, the company produced its first pickup and its first rotary vehicle. As Mazda began to introduce vehicles in the United States, it prioritized providing cars that were enjoyable to drive but didn't break anyone's budget, like the RX-2 and the RX-7 sports car. In the 1980s Mazda revamped its brand, and in 1990 released what would prove to be one of its most successful and well-loved vehicles, the Mazda MX-5 Miata. In the new century Mazda has continued to innovate and expand, producing more popular vehicles like the Mazda CX-5 SUV and the Mazda 3 sedan.

Today, the Mazda brand offers something for everyone, and continues to produce vehicles that provide a thrilling drive, but are still easy on your wallet. We'd love to see you at our Mazda dealership serving Coconut Creek, Boynton Beach, and Boca Raton so you can try out some of the great vehicles that we offer today, like the continually popular 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata .
